Please do not burn your diaries .. they are a statement that you exist! The words you use say things about you. If I were you .. I might look for a fire proof container to keep them in. Lots of things can happen that will quickly sweep your "life" away! I have paintings that represent months of work .. and are on display .. but there is always a real risk of complete destruction. I don't know if you have or plan to have kids .. but someday there might be great great great grands .. and they will know that you exist .. and something about how you think. Vintage stuff is like fine wine .. it gets more precious with age! I have a couch and round oak table that belonged to my father's mother .. and to her mother! We log our journey with the things we do too. May your life never become a disaster. If you don't write .. we will never know .. what words .. the ink in the pen .. contain!
Beautifully said, Merwin. Some of my most precious items were crafted by my great grandmother, I can still somewhow feel her while hugging the pillow she has knitted, even though I never met her. And I do agree that getting a fireproof container is not a bad idea!
